Josh Pacheco joined ESPN Radio in 2005 as a behind the scenes board operator, then got his first on-air opportunity months later doing SportsCenter In-Game Updates for BIIF Football. He later got to do Color Commentary and eventually, Play-by-Play, for select sporting events.
Josh has called two BIIF Baseball Championships, two state football tournament games, and this year lends his voice to coverage of the Boys and Girls State Basketball Championships. He also does work for UH Hilo Women’s Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, and Baseball, as well as High School Football, Basketball, and Baseball.
In 2006, he introduced the ESPN Radio Pregame show, giving listeners of local sports broadcasts much more than just the game. This was Josh’s way of introducing people to coaches and media members who follow those sports and giving them in depth information around the game.
In 2007, he moved into sports talk radio, hosting a Sunday Night local sports talk show called the Sunday Night Blitz. Beginning March 3rd, Josh moves full time to ESPN Radio to host his own daily sports show from 8 am – 11 am, bringing in local sports figures, talking sports issues, and taking your calls, emails, and texts.
Prior to his work at ESPN Radio, Josh called Vulcan athletics for University Radio Hilo’s streaming sports channel. He was also the General Manager and News Director of the student run radio station. You may have also heard him on sister stations KBIG and Da Beat. Josh did afternoons on KBIG from 2006 to 2008 and also filled in on the morning show. He also was a morning show fill in on Da Beat, as well as host in the afternoon and weekend nights.
In his spare time, Josh is also a musician with the Hawaii County Band. He plays in the percussion section and you may have seen him on the snare drum in a parade near you (he’s the tall one). He also enjoys watching various sports events, going to the movies, and eating Sushi with his good friends.
